I found this interesting, do you?

This is a post that I can across on Bob Bly’s blog about copywriting services becoming a commodity. While I agree that the fees for copywriting are dropping because it is a low entry field, many people are not good at writing and definitely not good a copywriting. Copywriting takes more skills than people realize in order to do a success job for a client and keep the clients coming back for more.

Yet this is not what I found to be interesting. What I find interesting is that people complain about paying a decent rate to hire a professional, yet want a decent rate when someone hires them to do work. This is not to criticize Bob Bly, but to my understanding working with him is not cheap by any standards and I find it ironic that he would not be willing to pay the fees of a fellow American to handle his services and instead chooses an offshore firm to handle his websites.

Yes, it does cost a lot more to live in American and we have to consider this when we set our fees. I cannot afford to write an article for $5, there are not enough hours in the day to write and sell enough $5 articles to support my family and me. I also am not willing to value myself so low and work for slave rates, which is what it, would be if are living in America and working for those rates. Even at $5 an hour, I could not afford to live.

My questions to you are:

Do you demand top notch rates, yet are unwilling to pay top-notch rates to others?

If you do, do you really think this is fair.

How do you feel when prospects bulk at your rates?
